Fever, a silent message to the individual is medically known as pyrexia. It is the result ofan underlying disease or infection in the body.
It can also be referred to as an abnormal rise in temperature of the body.
It is a sign that something is wrong internally which must be identified and treated.
Normal body temperature is 98.4 °F or 36.8 C.
Temperatures above or below is a sign of a disease.
Above 102 °F is an emergency.
As first aid, to save the brain from permanent damage, place cold pads (clean clothes) on forehead or around the neck.
Types Of Fever:
1. Continuous Fever : In this type of Fever the body temperature raises more than one degree than the normal in 24 hours. It is associated with the following diseases;
Typhoid
Pneumonia
Urinary Tract infection, etc
2. Remittent Fever: In this type of Fever the body temperature fluctuates and may raise up to two more degrees than the normal in 24 hours. It is associated with Typhoid and Endocarditis (Inflammation of Heart).
3. Intermittent Fever: In this type of Fever, the body temperature raises only for a certain period. It is associated with Malaria, and Septicemia, mostly parasite related diseases.
4. Septic Fever: Fever that is associated with Septic Infection, The body temperature may rise up to 5 degrees than normal.
5. Low Grade Fever: It is a mild elevation of body temperature than the normal. In children it may occur during their teething period. In adults it may be associated with TB.
6. Hyperpyrexia: Extremely high body temperature. In this state, the body temperature rises up to 6 to 7 degrees than normal. It may be an indication of an Emergency.
7. Hyperthermia: When the natural thermoregulation system of the body gets failed, the condition is known as Hyperthermia. In lesser terms, the body fails to adjust its temperature well.
